Ok.. so in the interest of full disclosure I saw a blog post from Rachel Hollis that asked this question and I immediately jumped on this exercise myself. Name 10 things that bring you joy. Not just things you like but things that make your heart truly happy. Sometimes life seems hard and there is so much negativity in the world but we can still feel joy….right? I hope that we all do. I know I certainly do and creating a list came very easy to me. Here are just a few of the things that made my list.

  1. Driving into a new city for the first time and experiencing a new place. The drive into Lake Tahoe and Yosemite was pure joy. The beauty was amazing and the anticipation of new adventures always brings me joy.

  2. Fridays. When I worked in an office there was palpable joy in the air on a Friday. I don’t have a “regular” schedule now but there is still something about Friday that brings me joy.

  3. Brunch. It just seem luxurious. It is something you don’t do all the time and the pace of it is so slow. You actually feel like you can just sit and enjoy your time.

  4. A genuine compliment. When I have a client genuinely love my work and then ask me to photograph them again… that is the best.

  5. Sappy commercials. My husband does all he can to avoid commercials. I actually love them and especially the sappy ones. The more tears the better.

  6. A great pen. My handwriting is atrocious. If I have a great pen it is almost legible.

  7. Time with my family. It really doesn’t matter what we are doing. It can be hiking, shopping or a movie. I love spending time with them that is relaxing and not rushing from one obligation to another.

  8. Wind in the trees. I read somewhere that the wind blowing through the trees has been scientifically proven to be relaxing. I absolutely believe that. If you are on a hike and you stop to listen it brings a true sense of calm.

  9. Bookstores. I sincerely hope Barnes and Noble never goes out of business. I go there to buy books just to do my small part to keep them going. The joy of grabbing a cup of coffee and browsing the books to me is pure joy.

  10. A great cup of coffee first thing in the morning. The first sip is always the best. I am a morning person so being up early is my thing. I love being bundled up in my robe and sitting on the couch with a great cup of coffee.
