What struck me the most about photographing Shannon and Reese was how similar their traditions are to my own. When I was growing up we never baked! My mom always said she wasn’t a baker but I was forced to learn to bake when my daughter was diagnosed with a peanut allergy. However, when Shannon and Reese began decorating the tree it seemed very familiar to my childhood.
With each ornament lifted out of the box there was a time, a place, a story. It is their family history. The pregnancy stork and baby’s first Christmas all mixed in with the homemade ornaments from school, that aren’t necessarily quality handcrafting but have a spotlight position on the tree. They are precious to the family because of the fond memories represented.
I love capturing the everyday moments in my own life and in the lives of others. It is often the simple moments we have the fondest memories of as we get older. I wish as I was growing up we had thought to document our traditions. I am so happy that they will have this to look back on one day.
